Park and Train

Eight products cover Tierra del Fuego National Park and the End of the World Train. All of the combined tours include hotel pickup in central Ushuaia and van or minibus transport. The station sits about 7 to 8 km west of town inside the park.

A useful fact to hold on to: the national park entry fee of ARS 40,000 ($26.50) for foreign visitors is not included on most cards and is mandatory for the train ride. Beagle and Penguins

The water group splits in two. Four channel crossings stay on the water and pass the Les Éclaireurs lighthouse, which stands about 5 nautical miles east of the city. Four go on to Isla Martillo, where the penguin colony runs from roughly October to April.

Only the landing tour lets you walk inside the colony, and the licensing rule is strict. Sailings move or cancel in strong wind, which the cards state openly. Approximate starting reference for this group: town pier.

Hikes

Five guided walks, four of them to or beyond Laguna Esmeralda in the Valle de Tierra Mayor. The lagoon trail is commonly walked in 4 to 5 hours round trip from the trailhead, our estimate, since no official municipality figure is published. Lakes 4x4 and Long Day Trips

Six products head north over the Garibaldi pass to Lakes Escondido and Fagnano, most with a lakeside barbecue. One goes much further, a twelve-hour day to the king penguin reserve on the Atlantic side of the island. Winter

The Operator Map

The railway itself sells through the platform as Tren del Fin del Mundo, so that card is as close to official as the train gets online.

Cancellation and Payment

Free cancellation up to 24 hours before start is the standard on the platform listings we carry, and the deadline is printed on every card. The helicopter is the exception at 2 days. Reserve-now-pay-later is available on the cards, so you can hold a place on the penguin landing without paying first.

Prices are listed in US dollars as shown, which suits visitors whose banks charge for peso transactions. Our estimate: book the Martillo landing and the 4x4 days as early as your dates are fixed, since the full-day formats have the fewest seats per departure.

Platform Versus Official Channels

The train can be bought direct from the railway, where Turista adult seats cost ARS 70,000 ($46.40) until 30 September and ARS 80,000 ($53.10) from 1 October. Check-in is 45 minutes before departure and the reservation is released 10 minutes out. The park entry fee is never included in the train fare, on any channel.

A combined tour card bundles the transport, the guide and the ride for $49.50, which undercuts the train-plus-shuttle sum for most travellers doing both. The museums also sell direct: the Museo Marítimo charges ARS 44,000 ($29.20) for adults at the door and museum tickets are worth comparing if a tour is not needed.

What Runs When

The channel, park and hiking groups run all year, with snow reworking the programme from June to September. The penguin colony is seasonal by biology, not by operator choice. The table pairs each group with its window and the conditions you should expect.

Question One: How Much Time Do You Have?

Half a day points to tour-1 at $49.50 for the park and train in 5 hours, or the 3-hour channel crossing at $66.30. A full day opens the 4x4 lakes tour at $165 with lunch, or tour-36, which stacks park, train and channel for $161.50. Our pick for a single long day is tour-36, because booking the three pieces separately costs more.

Question Two: What Month Is It?

November to March gives you every group, including the penguin landing. June to September swaps the hiking and penguin options for snow: the snow park at $230 or the husky day at $125. The shoulder months of October and April suit the park, the channel and the lagoon trek, and the trails are quieter.

Question Three: How Are Your Sea Legs?

The channel can be lumpy, and the cards say sailings move in strong wind. If you are a confident sailor, the standard crossings and the penguin-viewing boats are fine. If not, the land-based options carry no such risk: the park tour, the lagoon trek at $99 or the 4x4 lakes day never leave terra firma.

Our estimate is that queasy travellers are happier spending the boat money on Estancia Harberton and the Martillo landing, which reaches the colony by road and short crossing via the estancia.
